Грамматические соответствия в процессе перевода

При переводе комплекса «сложное дополнение» нередко бывает необходимо включение соединительного звена между глаголом-сказуемым и инфинитивным комплексом.

I, for my part, have known a five-pound note to interpose and knock up a half century's attachment between two brethren. (W. M. Thackeray)

Что касается меня, то я зиал случай, когда пятифунтовый билет встал между братьями и разрушил полувековую привязанность.

Возможный вариант: Мне довелось быть свидетелем того, как...

В комплексе «сложное сказуемое» простой или перфектный инфинитив может передаваться в переводе двумя способами: или неопределенно-личной формой глагола или модально-вводными словами «как сообщают», «как передают» и т. п.

Like other things, it (the football) is sometimes said to have been introduced by the Romans. (E. Parker)

Иногда говорят, что футбол, как и многое другое, был привезен в Англию римлянами.

Или другой вариант:

Футбол, как иногда утверждают, подобно многим другим нововведениям, был привезен в Англию римлянами.
